19th Annual Oxford Dance Symposium The Oxford dance symposia focus on the technique, practice and philosophy of dance during the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, and we always welcome papers on any aspect of dance during this period. Each year, however, we have a light touch theme which is central to the programme to which participants are invited to respond if they wish. The theme for 2017 will be dance and the city in all its forms. Topics might include street dancing, dancing in the theatre, ballroom dancing, dancing at city events, and the consideration of these issues in diaries, letters, novels, and other sources.

The 34th Annual Early Dance Festival will take place in Tadcaster (10 miles SW of York) Full booking details are available here: Festival 2017 Booking Form This annual October gathering of groups from all over the UK celebrates early dance with performances from a wide range of periods. The groups are all serious students of early dance at varying levels of development, from professional dancers and experienced performance groups to dancers relatively new to this absorbing pastime. All periods are generally on show — 15th century dance, Elizabethan and Jacobean or Italian dance, baroque dance, English Country dance, Regency and Victorian. The Festival is hosted by different Early Dance groups around the country, frequently in a location of historical interest. Over the years it has grown into a full weekend event with events on the Friday and Sunday, as well as the AGM and Festival performances on Saturday, followed by an evening of social dancing. |
